One Day 2021

As part of an event for the American Advertising Federation in the Corpus Christi chapter, this year’s One Day Event focused on a non-profit group called “The Je’Sani Smith Foundation”. This group was started because Je’Sani, a student at Richard King High School lost his life when he got caught in a rip current at the beach. His parents started this foundation to honor Je’sani’s memory as well as educate beach-goers about the dangers of rip currents and how you can save yourself from one. This collaborative project gave The Je’Sani Smith Foundation an entire package of deliverables (which included print, outdoor, and digital graphics) for advertising and branding that they can use to get more donations as well as educational materials they can hand out at the beach and visitor’s centers. My role in this year’s event was creating social media graphics, as well as web banners, posters, and brochures.

Educational Social Posts

One of the main goals of this project was to bring awareness to the dangers of swimming while there are rip currents. Je’Sani’s parents told the One Day team that the beach warning flags were very significant in their previous branding and that they wanted to honor the flags in some way with their new branding and marketing materials.

Along with this, they wanted a large amount of social media post materials becuase they knew their audience was primarily teens and young adults visiting the beach on weekends or holidays. Social media seemed like the best way to reach this audience, so we created materials that they could post regularly that might catch a young audience’s attention on Instagram or Facebook and get the message across quickly and concisely.

Educational Posters

In an effort to educate the public about rip currents and beach safety, the Je’Sani Smith Foundation goes to events, conventions, and schools to hand out flyers and educational brochures with information about how to beach safely. Their previous brochure lacked direction and needed to be rebranded to their new branding. The One Day team curated this educational brochure for all of the Je’Sani Smith Foundation’s educational needs.
